Not so long ago, it seemed like the Dallas Cowboys wanted to put some pressure on Dak Prescott.
Prescott still hadn’t gotten his contract extension, and Jerry Jones decided to trade for Trey Lance.
Fast-forward to today, and it seems that Lance hasn’t done enough to convince anybody that he can be the future of this team.
Even with the playoffs seemingly out of reach, the Cowboys still won’t turn to Lance to see what they have.
When asked about that, Jones admitted that Cooper Rush still gives them the best opportunity to win right now.
“I don’t think so, I thought for the most part we did some good things out there, I still believe [Cooper Rush] gives us our best chance,” he said.

Rush hasn’t been that bad, but he’s not a starting-caliber quarterback.
Starting Lance would’ve made more sense, even if it were to drive his trade value up and move on from him.
Lance was always considered to be a project, yet his development – or lack thereof – has been rather alarming.
The San Francisco 49ers gave up a lot to get him in the first round of the NFL Draft just to give up on him shortly after.
Jones’ decision to trade for him made perfect sense on paper, as they would be getting a young and talented prospect at a discount.
Still, it is worrisome that he hasn’t even been able to win the backup spot for this team.
At this point, it’s starting to feel like he will never get it together.
