The New England Patriots are in a privileged position right now.
They haven’t exactly been used to picking this high in the NFL Draft, but it’s the dawn of a new era.
First-year head coach Jerod Mayo and the front office are in possession of the No. 3 pick.
And while most people agree that they could and should use it to take a quarterback — most likely Drake Maye — they have to consider all their options.
Recently, Coach Mayo admitted that he definitely sees the team considering a trade if another team is willing to give up a big haul and a flurry of draft picks for their pick (via NBC Sports Boston).
“We could take someone at three or if someone offers a bag of first round picks we definitely have to talk about those things as we continue to put together this team,” Mayo said.
Jerod Mayo spoke with the media Monday morning about the potential for the Patriots to trade the 3rd pick…

That makes perfect sense, and doing otherwise would be a disservice.
Then again, at this point, it doesn’t seem likely that any other team will give up what it takes to land the third pick.
The New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders should all be interested in landing a quarterback, but they could still get Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, or Bo Nix later in the draft.
Some also believe that the Patriots could be tempted to bypass Maye or Jayden Daniels to get their hands on Marvin Harrison Jr. instead, as he might end up being the best player in this class.
Whatever the case, the Patriots aren’t just one player away from getting back to contention, so they shouldn’t be closed to any possibility right now.
