The Boston Celtics have made it back to the NBA Finals for the second time in the past three seasons.
While they haven’t won the Finals in nearly a decade, this team continues to fight, hoping this is the year they’ll be able to break through.
The Celtics continue to be lauded as one of the best-run organizations in the NBA for this reason, as they have been consistent for years.
While this season hasn’t concluded yet, the Celtics are already looking toward the 2024-2025 campaign.
Assistant coach Charles Lee has accepted a new job as the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, which he will start after the Finals have concluded.
With that in mind, the Celtics will need a new assistant coach, a role that could be filled by someone already in the organization.
As Marc Stein recently reported via Brian Robb and MassLive, the Celtics could replace Lee with Jeff Van Gundy.
New interesting little tidbit from this weekend: The Celtics are considering moving Jeff Van Gundy into a bench role next season per @TheSteinLine https://t.co/eTlH6rbtnZ

Van Gundy hasn’t been an official coach since the 2006-2007 season with the Houston Rockets.
However, he has been a consultant for a few teams in the meantime and is currently a member of the Celtics’ front office.
He would seemingly be a good fit to join Joe Mazzulla’s staff, especially since he already has familiarity with the organization.
Van Gundy also knows the Celtics players given his role with the organization, so this could be a good fit for all parties involved.
The Celtics are just four wins away from an NBA championship.
Will the results of this year’s Finals dictate the new assistant coach they choose?
