Even before his tragical and sudden passing, the Los Angeles Lakers should’ve unveiled a Kobe Bryant statue.
Needless to say, that terrible turn of events only made the fans wonder when the team was going to honor one of the greatest players in franchise history.
With that in mind, team owner Jeanie Buss urged the fans to rest assured that the statue is on the way.
According to Kobe Highlight (via Legion Hoops), the statue isn’t for ‘public consumption’ yet, but Buss claimed she would offer more updates in a timely manner.

Kobe had several detractors in the early stages of his career, but he became one of the most universally beloved and respected athletes ever at the end.
He went through a scandal in 2003, and his style of play didn’t sit well with some fans.
Then again, no one could ever deny his greatness, his tenacity, and his determination to outwork every single player in the league, even those on his team.
Kobe became a source of inspiration for athletes and non-athletes alike.
That way of tirelessly working in his craft, combined with that almost-unmatched résumé, made Kobe arguably the greatest player to ever wear the Purple and Gold, and some can’t still fathom the fact that he’s no longer among us.
The Lakers must choose a very special date to unveil this statue and make a ceremony according to the occasion.
It will definitely be one of the most emotional days in recent NBA history, but he deserves no less than that.
