One of the players who garnered a lot of attention was Jayson Tatum, who was attempting to be his team’s leader and help them overcome the red-hot Warriors.
Tatum has been on a tear lately and has been officially making a place for himself in Boston history.
Tatum now has the most points for a Celtics player before turning 25 years old, with 7,640 points.
That’s just a hair above Antoine Walker who had 7,631 points while Paul Pierce put up 6,433 during his career.
Tatum’s teammate, Jaylen Brown, is also on this list with 5,140, but it’s clear that Tatum is the top dog for his team right now.
The Towering Tatum
Tatum was putting up 26.9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists during the 2021-22 season.
Those numbers were 21.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 7 assists during the Finals but his performance against the Warriors was a bit of a mixed bag.
However, you have to remember that Tatum was being challenged by the Warriors, who were obviously well-acquainted with playing in the Finals and knew exactly what they needed to do to claim another ring.
He was going up against a powerhouse team that some call the best of the generation so mixed results in the Finals are completely understandable.
The bottom line is that Tatum is Boston’s most treasured player right now and is quickly becoming a historic, iconic player for the storied franchise.
