The Boston Celtics are bruised and banged up but still fighting hard in the playoffs.
The Celtics eliminated the Orlando Magic from the NBA playoffs on Tuesday evening and are now pushing forward into the next round.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Boston, and they received a few injuries and setbacks along the way, but Jayson Tatum believes this will make his team stronger.
“Yeah, it was probably exactly what we needed,” said Tatum. “A good test [for the] first round. A couple guys really banged up and dealing with some things. But [just] showing that mental toughness of getting up and getting ready for each game and doing whatever it takes, whatever the game calls for and figuring out a way to win. That’s all that matters this time of the year. As a group, we’ve been through it all, and we showed it and proved it this series.”
The injuries have racked up during this series: Tatum hurt his wrist in Game 1, Kristaps Porzingis was cut on his forehead in Game 2, Jaylen Brown injured a finger, and his knee is still hurting.
Yes, the Celtics got roughed up, but they still came away with a 4-1 series victory over the Magic.
As Tatum noted, the postseason is what it’s all about and what all NBA teams are playing for.
They know it’ll be rough, but they are up for the challenge and prepared for things to get difficult during the final months of the season.
He said that his team is going to get up and give whatever it takes every single night, no matter their physical state and how hurt they are.
The Celtics are a supremely skilled team, but they have more than just the ability to shoot the ball well.
They are fierce fighters who believe in themselves and will do whatever it takes to win.
