The Seattle Seahawks went through a major overhaul this offseason.
They traded quarterback Geno Smith and signed Sam Darnold to replace him, and they moved on from wide receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
So, the table was set for Jaxon Smith-Njigba to have a breakout year.
However, not even the most optimistic fan saw this type of production coming, as he is on his way to setting a significant record.
“Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba is on pace for 1,989 receiving yards this season, which would break Calvin Johnson’s all-time NFL record of 1,964 yards for a single-season,” Schultz posted on X.

It’s still crazy to think that Johnson did that in a 16-game season, which goes to show how dominant he was in his prime.
Not even Tyreek Hill, Cooper Kupp or Ja’Marr Chase have been able to reach that mark in their best seasons, and while Puka Nacua was also on track to do so this year, he has since missed time with an injury.
Given a bigger role, Smith-Njigba has taken a big leap this season.
He went from being a specialist in the slot to doing a lot of his damage out wide, and his chemistry with Darnold in such a short time is remarkable.
Of course, more than half of the regular season remains, and maintaining this type of output might not be sustainable.
But if Smith-Njigba can stay healthy, he might put his name in the NFL record book.
