This week came with awful news for the Seattle Mariners and their fans.
On Wednesday, outfielder Jarred Kelenic struck out in an important at-bat and took out his frustrations on a cooler, kicking it.
Unfortunately, there were consequences: he fractured his left foot in the process.
Now, the Mariners are left without one of their regulars at an important time, as they try to make the playoffs for the second season in a row.
Kelenic was in tears while talking to the media on Thursday and explaining the situation, per Talkin’ Baseball.

He did own up to his mistake.
“Emotions got the best of me there. I just feel terrible, especially for the guys. I let them down. I take full responsibility for it. It’s on me,” he said to the media in the Mariners dugout.
After years of struggling at the MLB level, Kelenic was having a bit of a breakthrough season in 2023.
He was hitting .252/.320/.439 with 11 home runs and 12 steals in 90 games.
His strikeout rate was well-below average, though, at 32.6 percent.
That’s what triggered his angry reaction on Wednesday: a strikeout in a big spot.
Still, it’s clear he needs some help dealing with adversity and his own frustration.
Sometimes, the human mind can be its worst enemy, and that applies for all of us.
Kelenic has worked with a sports psychologist in the past and might need some help this time to cope with the feeling of letting his teammates down.
There is nothing wrong with getting help every once in a while.
Here is hoping he can return at some point this season to help the M’s achieve their objectives.NEXT: MLB Analyst Connects The Mariners To Shohei Ohtani
