Detroit Lions fans weren’t sure what to think when the team traded for Jared Goff.
After all, Matthew Stafford had been their starting quarterback for 12 seasons, and it felt like he was going to be a member of the Lions for life.
He ultimately got traded to the Los Angeles Rams, where he won a Super Bowl in his first season with the team.
There were some initial growing pains when Goff took over, but it didn’t take long for him to make his mark on this team and win over the hearts of fans.
He’s helped lead an efficient Detroit offense, a team that’s viewed as one of the best units in football when everything is clicking as it’s supposed to.
This efficiency and dominance were put on full display in Week 2, as the Lions scored 52 points against the Chicago Bears.
This was the fifth 50-point game of Goff’s career, which Adam Schefter pointed out on X, noting that he tied Peyton Manning in this statistic, also mentioning that Goff is now fourth in the all-time list in this regard.
“Jared Goff now has five NFL starts in which his team scored at least 50 points, tied with Peyton Manning (five) for the fourth-most such starts by a quarterback since 1950, and trailing only Tom Brady (eight starts), Drew Brees (six) and Len Dawson (six),” Schefter posted on X.

This puts Goff in elite quarterback company, a conversation he isn’t always a part of.
It will be interesting to see how this team will compete throughout the rest of the season, especially seeing how they were dominated by the Green Bay Packers in Week 1.
Goff and his teammates can put up points, as they showed this week, but it remains to be seen if they can stop a top-tier offense when it matters most.
