Despite making the playoffs last season, the Seattle Seahawks still had a top-five pick in the 2023 NFL Draft earlier this year, thanks to the trade in 2022 that sent quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.
With that draft selection, the Seahawks decided to select one of the best defenders from the entire 2023 draft class, former Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
So far this season, Witherspoon has been as advertised, making plays in the opposing backfield, pressuring the opposing quarterback, and covering opposing receivers like a glove.
Following Seattle’s win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, veteran Seahawks safety Jamal Adams described Witherspoon as a “complete baller [and] a game changer,” via John Boyle.

In the matchup against the Cardinals, Seattle’s rookie cornerback finished with four tackles and one pass breakup.
With Witherspoon’s help, the Seahawks defense was able to prevent Arizona from doing much of anything with their passing attack, holding them to just 150 yards through the air on the day.
The improvement of their pass defense is just one of the many factors that have contributed to the Seahawks beginning the 2023 season with a 4-2 record.
Despite their success this year, it still feels like Seattle is a bit under the radar in terms of being a contender in the NFC.
But if they keep winning, it’s going to be difficult to ignore what they have been able to do out on the field each week.
In Week 8, the Seahawks will attempt to improve their record to 5-2 when they host the Cleveland Browns.
