The Detroit Lions’ offense might look different this season.
Ben Johnson is no longer there calling the shots, and John Morton will have some big shoes to fill as offensive coordinator.
Fortunately for him, he will have a versatile and dynamic weapon who seems ready to take the league by storm this season.
When asked about his new role on offense, star RB Jahmyr Gibbs hinted at expanded opportunities as a pass-catcher (via Brad Galli):
“Nothing too much changed. A lot of stuff is the same, but I gotta learn the formations for being split out. I’m being split out, I guess, way more than I was the past two years. That’s good, that’s going to be fun. I’ve been waiting on that,” Gibbs said.
Jahmyr Gibbs is expecting to be involved in the Lions passing attack even more under new offensive coordinator John Morton.

Gibbs has lived up to the hype, and then some.
He’s proven that it’s not always a mistake to draft a running back early in the first round.
The Lions drew mockery and questions when they made that decision, since they already seemed to be all set in the backfield.
Even so, Gibbs has excelled despite spending most of his career as a part of a committee.
That’s the best way to keep him fresh and out of harm’s way, all while opposing defenses have a tough time dealing with his acceleration, quick burst, and explosiveness.
Still, he’s also shown that he’s more than capable of holding his own as the sole back when David Montgomery had to miss a couple of games last season.
The Lions enter this season with a big chip on their shoulders after losing a game they were supposed to win in the playoffs.
They were expected to be the last team standing out of the NFC, and they couldn’t even win a single postseason contest.
