Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is showing promising signs of recovery in the midst of offseason preparations.
The young signal-caller was recently spotted in Illinois, dedicating time to private workouts as he rebounds from a meniscus injury that prematurely ended his rookie campaign.
While questions linger about his role as the Vikings’ starter in 2025, McCarthy’s progress offers encouraging signs for the team’s future.
The former Michigan standout appears to be hitting all the right marks in his rehabilitation.
During a recent conversation with Sports Illustrated, McCarthy shared an optimistic update on his recovery journey.
“It’s going amazing. We are ahead of schedule, on track, whatever you want to call it, but it’s going good, and we’ll be ready in around 67 days for OTAs and yeah, we’re running, throwing. Everything feels great,” he explained.
Again, @Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy, HIMSELF, has already confirmed he’s “ahead of schedule” and will be ready for OTAs this Spring.

McCarthy’s arrival in Minnesota generated considerable buzz after the Vikings selected him in the first round.
Although initially slated for a backup role, he made an immediate impact in his preseason opportunity.
His debut against the Raiders showcased his potential, as he completed 11-of-17 passes for 188 yards, throwing two touchdowns alongside an interception in a winning effort.
However, the excitement surrounding McCarthy’s promising start was short-lived.
Just days after his impressive preseason showing, a meniscus injury brought his rookie season to an unexpected halt.
If his recovery continues as planned, he should be ready for training camp and preseason activities, providing him an opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities as a potential franchise quarterback.
The quarterback situation in Minnesota has become increasingly intriguing, with Sam Darnold’s breakout performance in 2024 adding another layer to the discussion.
While Darnold’s success makes a strong case for him to retain the starting role, McCarthy’s flashes of brilliance during training camp and preseason haven’t been forgotten.
