Throughout his NBA career, Isaiah Thomas played for multiple teams and always tried to be a leader and the centerpiece of his squad’s mentality and drive.
It looks like he did that partly because of advice he received from Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
Sitting down with Gilbert Arenas and the Underdog Fantasy crew, Thomas spoke of the best lesson that Bryant gave him.
“To get the guys that aren’t as good as you to follow you, you’ve got to really teach them the way,” Thomas said, relaying Bryant’s advice.

Thomas spoke in-depth about how Bryant worked with the players on the team.
He didn’t just perform well and hoped that the other athletes would try to follow in his footsteps.
He sat down with them, watched film with them, and assisted them in developing their skills.
Thomas isn’t the first one to comment on Bryant’s desire to impart wisdom and guidance to other players.
Even as his career began to wind down, Bryant remained solely devoted to winning.
There were several seasons when his Lakers were not in good shape and he was by far the best player on the roster.
Even without much hope of playoff contention, Bryant played his heart out and taught his teammates to do the same.
His Mamba Mentality, as it was known, never waned.
Thomas took notes from Bryant and his advice.
He said that when he started to do as Bryant advised, he found more success.
This is just yet another example of no one understanding the game of basketball like Bryant.
He loved the game and was singularly devoted to it like few others.
