The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already secured their top target for the upcoming season and beyond.
Star wide receiver Mike Evans is ready to stay put at Raymond James Stadium after securing a very lucrative contract extension.
However, once again, he may not have a reliable quarterback throwing him the football.
Recently, Bucs GM Jason Licht admitted that the team is bracing to let Mayfield test out free agency, stating that both parties are in a disagreement right now, and that he doesn’t want his player to be unhappy.
That makes sense, and Mayfield will test the waters to figure out his actual market value.
However, that also opens the door for other teams to make a run at him.
Considering that, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk claimed that the Minnesota Vikings could look to sign him if they end up losing Kirk Cousins.
“The one team to watch most closely is the Vikings. If Kirk Cousins leaves, Mayfield becomes a viable alternative. Minnesota witnessed his abilities in Week 1, when he led the Bucs into U.S. Bank Stadium for an upset win capped by a gritty, shoulder-lowering first-down run and a key third-down throw to Chris Godwin,” he wrote.

Of course, this would make sense for the Vikings.
Mayfield would be a proven quarterback to try and keep the ship afloat.
He’d most likely be a stopgap while they find a long-term solution at the position, but they could still trust him for the long run, considering he’s younger than Cousins.
The Atlanta Falcons are currently the odds-on favorites to land Cousins, who’s reportedly set to get a very lucrative deal.
That musical chairs game spells trouble for Todd Bowles’ team, and the Bucs would most likely have to go after Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill, or maybe even Jimmy Garoppolo if Mayfield were to leave.
