With just two weeks to go in the NFL regular season, much of the focus is on wild-card positioning and the few divisions that are still up for grabs, namely the NFC South and NFC West.
However, there is one Super Bowl contender that has an important game coming up that most may not realize.
“Sneaky big game for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday vs. the [New York] Jets. A win locks them into the second seed, giving them a shot to rest stars in Week 18, and avoid a potential return trip to Baltimore in the divisional round,” NFL on Prime insider Albert Breer wrote on X.

Now that the Kansas City Chiefs are 15-1, a first-round bye for the Bills is out of the question, but locking in the No. 2 seed could incentivize them to rest some starters in Week 18 and create their own mini-bye.
Avoiding a road game against the Baltimore Ravens is also a strong motivating factor, because if the Bills do have to take on the Ravens in the divisional round, they are much better off doing it at home.
The Bills defeated the Jets earlier this season and will look to complete the sweep to move to 13-3 before wrapping up the season at the New England Patriots.
If Buffalo is the No. 2 seed, it will most likely host either the Denver Broncos or Los Angeles Chargers in the opening round before potentially seeing the Ravens in the second round.
