The Green Bay Packers and one of their premier defensive stars remain in a holding pattern following months of swirling trade speculation.
Jaire Alexander appears destined for departure, though his exit isn’t yet finalized.
The organization continues calculating its approach, aiming to extract maximum value from any potential transaction involving their former All-Pro cornerback.
ESPN insider Rob Demovsky revealed the franchise hasn’t closed any avenues regarding Alexander’s future with the team.
“According to a source, the Packers and Jaire Alexander continue to talk about a possible resolution, which could include a reconciliation to where Alexander plays for the Packers in 2025 after all. All options are still on the table: release, trade or return,” Demovsky wrote.

General manager Brian Gutekunst had previously emphasized that securing trade compensation for Alexander was a priority heading into the draft.
However, the selection weekend came and went without any movement on that front.
The timing now suggests patience might benefit the Packers. Waiting until after June 2 to execute either a trade or release would significantly boost their financial flexibility, generating $17.117 million in cap relief for 2025.
This approach carries financial implications, though, spreading dead money charges of $7.518 million next season and $9.525 million in 2026.
Retaining Alexander remains viable if he’s amenable to contract adjustments. His current deal pays $17.5 million in 2025 and jumps to $19.5 million the following season.
A restructured agreement could reduce his immediate salary while adding performance-based incentives and potentially eliminating the final year, allowing Alexander to test free agency sooner.
This prolonged situation also demonstrates the Packers leveraging their position.
By keeping Alexander on the roster, they maintain flexibility while waiting for better trade opportunities to materialize before making their final decision.
