The San Francisco 49ers have lost their last two games, and they have gone from looking like the best team in the NFL to somewhat vulnerable.
They have had some defensive issues, and they have also been banged up of late as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup with Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel and All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams missed their last game against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, while quarterback Brock Purdy was surprisingly placed in the concussion protocol a couple of days ago.
Per David Lombardi, Purdy fully participated in practice on Friday, and he will have to pass one more concussion test on Saturday in order to start on Sunday.
Brock Purdy has one concussion protocol step to pass tomorrow. He was full-go at practice today. He will “definitely” start for the 49ers against the Bengals if he passes the Saturday test, per Shanahan

Ever since taking over for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13 of last season, Purdy had become a sensation, playing high-level football despite being the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft.
But over the last two weeks, he has seen his stock fall a bit.
He went just 12 of 27 in San Francisco’s Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns, and although he completed 21 of 30 passes for 272 yards on Monday, he threw two interceptions, including one in the final seconds.
Some are starting to doubt Purdy and the Niners, but it should be noted they lost both games by a combined seven points despite many miscues.
The Bengals are 3-3, but they may be starting to put things together, as they have won both of their last two games, so Sunday’s contest will be a stiff test for both teams.
