The San Antonio Spurs just got their hands on the most unique prospect in NBA history.
Victor Wembanyama is the ultimate unicorn, and as such, it’s going to take a lot to get the best out of him on the court.
That’s why, unlike what most people thought, the Spurs don’t plan to use him in his traditional center position.
Instead, NBA insider Shams Charania reports that they’re more keen on him playing power forward (via Legion Hoops).

This makes sense, considering his unique skill set.
Wembanyama can efficiently score from all three levels, and his three-point shooting skills will allow the Spurs to stretch the floor, all while a more traditional and physical center anchors the paint for them.
Wembanyama is an elite rim protector and shot-blocker as it is, and he could provide a big boost as a help defender because of his long arms.
Given his rather lanky frame, perhaps having him withstand the physicality and beating of playing against traditional NBA big men every day wouldn’t have been the best idea.
Also, it’s not like the Spurs haven’t found plenty of success with an oversized power forward in the past, as Hall of Famer Tim Duncan spent most of his minutes at the four, not the five.
Whatever the case and regardless of where he is on the floor, Wembanyama will be must-watch television.
