Only about 18 months ago, many were picking the New Orleans Saints to finish first in the NFC South ahead of the 2023 season.
But they failed to do so, and this season, they went 5-12, which resulted in them firing Dennis Allen as their head coach after just nine games.
The Saints are one of several NFL teams still looking to hire a new head coach right now, and one of their top candidates appears to be Aaron Glenn, who is currently the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator.
But Benjamin Allbright feels they will ultimately hire Mike McCarthy, who just parted ways with the Dallas Cowboys.
I still think it it’ll be Mike McCarthy https://t.co/ZiYYMHIovN

McCarthy, at least at first glance, may seem to be a somewhat uninspiring choice for a Saints franchise that hasn’t been that competitive ever since legendary quarterback Drew Brees retired following the 2020 season.
In five seasons as the Cowboys’ head coach, he ended up winning just one playoff game in three playoff appearances despite having a star-studded roster to work with.
He did guide the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl championship back in the 2010 season, but after that, he had a glaring lack of postseason success despite another star-studded roster that included a prime Aaron Rodgers.
New Orleans has question marks throughout their roster, starting at quarterback, where Derek Carr hasn’t exactly worked out, and they could use some more reinforcements on both sides of the football.
The franchise hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2020 season, when it went 12-4 in Sean Payton’s penultimate season as its head coach.
