The Kansas City Chiefs cannot catch a break right now.
Sitting on an 8-5 record, Andy Reid’s team has now dropped three of their past four games.
The reigning Super Bowl champions don’t look like a legitimate threat to go back-to-back this season, and that’s despite having the best quarterback in the game, perfectly healthy and in his prime.
That’s why Chiefs reporter McKenzie Nelson believes Patrick Mahomes’ outburst on the sidelines on Sunday was motivated by way more than just a bad or missed call.
We never see this side of Patrick Mahomes but this is a seasons worth of frustrations coming out in the moment. He’s taken the blame all season long. This is about more than just 1 penalty

Nelson stated that Mahomes’ frustration comes after taking the blame for his team’s shortcomings all season long, and she could be right on point.
Mahomes has been in the spotlight since the start of the campaign, and he’s often talked about how much he trusts his teammates even though they’ve let him down all year.
Outside of Travis Kelce and — at times — Rashee Rice, Mahomes hasn’t had a reliable wide receiver or pass-catcher.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling dropped a game-winning touchdown despite being wide open, Kadarius Toney has been underwhelming and cost them a potential game-winning touchdown as well, and they simply don’t have the talent to keep up with other powerhouses of the game.
Mahomes is still the best quarterback in the game and the only reason why they’re 8-5 and still in playoff and divisional contention.
But as good as he is, he cannot catch his own passes, and the front office is going to have to do something to revamp that underwhelming receiving corps in the offseason.
