There was a tinge of hope for the Carolina Panthers this season, as they brought onboard quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 pick in April’s draft, Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders, and wide receivers Adam Thielen and D.J. Chark.
But they’re now 0-4, and although they’re struggling, they still feel they have their franchise signal-caller in Young.
Per Jordan Schultz, Carolina wants to acquire a top-flight wide receiver in order to keep building for the future and provide Young with more weapons.
Sources: The #Panthers are not only looking to trade for a wide receiver, but they want a No. 1 caliber guy. This is their top priority right now.
Why? Because the organization is ALL IN on Bryce Young – the player and the person. They love him and want to support him. They… pic.twitter.com/490YeGW5ks

Thielen has a solid 287 yards and two touchdowns through four games, but he has never been a No. 1 wideout, and acquiring one could help speed up Young’s development.
So far this year, Young isn’t doing too well — he has thrown two touchdown passes and two interceptions, has racked up just 503 passing yards and has a passer rating of just 75.0.
As a team, the Panthers rank just 18th in passing touchdowns and 23rd in passing yards in 2023, and they have scored at least 20 points in just one of their four games.
They will have two tough games coming up as they head out on the road to face the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins the next two weeks, giving them a good chance of being 0-6 when they head into their bye during Week 7.
Some feel Carolina’s best bet for a high-level wideout could be either Courtland Sutton or Jerry Jeudy of the Denver Broncos, another team that has been struggling mightily to start the schedule.
A number of prominent Broncos players have been the subject of trade rumors due to their poor start.
