The Golden State Warriors didn’t have a great NBA offseason, as the team saw star sharpshooter Klay Thompson leave the Bay Area in favor of signing with the Dallas Mavericks, and the franchise couldn’t find a viable star replacement in free agency or on the trade market.
The Warriors were aggressive in their efforts to land another star, as they tried to acquire Lauri Markkanen and were rumored to be involved in trade talks for Karl-Anthony Towns before he ultimately landed with the New York Knicks.
Although the Warriors’ brass wasn’t able to make significant moves, the team seems to still be in the market for another star player, even though they’ve gotten off to a solid start to the 2024-25 campaign with a 4-1 record despite superstar Stephen Curry being on the mend with an ankle injury.
One NBA insider said the Warriors may have a particular superstar in their sights.
“Jimmy Butler is a potential trade target to monitor for the Warriors, per [Sam Amick of The Athletic]. Rival executives also believe Golden State is more willing than ever to include Jonathan Kuminga in a trade to land a star,” Evan Sidery of Forbes wrote on X.

Although the Miami Heat have been adamant about not wanting to trade Butler, who is the heart and soul of the franchise, that stance could quickly change if the team starts having a rough season, which is already a little rocky at 2-2 after four games.
Butler would be an interesting addition to the Warriors, as it would give them another veteran star who is determined to win a title and might be a lethal combination with Draymond Green defensively.
