The New York Knicks are on the doorstep of becoming a legitimate NBA Championship contender in the 2023-24 season.
After years of struggling to become a good team, the Knicks finally advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the 2023 playoffs.
The Knicks pushed the Miami Heat to six games, but ultimately weren’t good enough to beat Jimmy Butler and co.
At the end of the day, last season was still a major step up for the Knicks, and NBA insider Brian Windhorst explained how the franchise can be a great team via New York Basketball on Twitter.
“Trade themselves into a great team,” Windhorst said.
ESPN Zach Lowe: “If I’m Knicks optimist…Why can’t we wake up in May & the New York Knicks are in the Conference Finals?…This is a good, deep team, well-coached, they’re gonna grind defensively…”

Windhorst was discussing the future of the Knicks with ESPN’s Zach Lowe.
Lowe wondered if he could wake up in 2024, and the Knicks are miraculously in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Windhorst showed his doubt about the Knicks reaching the Conference Finals but still provided an answer to how they can become an excellent team.
The renowned NBA insider’s solution revolved around the Knicks making multiple trades to become good.
The organization already has a core of Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.
But the Knicks still need better role players around them to legitimately contend for an NBA title.
The Knicks could take Windhorst’s advice and try the trade market.
At any cost, the Knicks will need to keep the core of Brunson and Randle intact.
Moreover, Josh Hart is a crucial piece to the supporting cast of the Knicks.
Can the Knicks really become an Eastern Conference Finals-bound team? Fans will find out soon.
