After Robert Saleh had been their head coach for a little over three seasons, the New York Jets fired him back in October amidst a bit of controversy.
Lately, he has interviewed with a number of teams for their head coaching openings, and he also talked to the San Francisco 49ers about becoming their defensive coordinator once again.
While it may be hard to imagine Saleh turning down another opportunity to be a head coach, Michael Silver of The Athletic posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he expects Saleh to end up with the Niners.
I expect the 49ers to rehire Robert Saleh as their defensive coordinator soon

After spending a few years as an assistant coach at three different colleges, Saleh broke into the NFL in 2005 as a defensive intern for the Houston Texans.
Once he had built enough of a resume, the Niners hired him to be their defensive coordinator in 2017 as part of some sweeping changes they made throughout the organization.
At the time, they were mired in what looked to be a long and painful rebuilding process, but Saleh, along with head coach Kyle Shanahan, quickly built them into a power.
In 2019, they were eighth in points allowed and second in total yards allowed, which was good enough to get them to the Super Bowl, where they were just minutes away from claiming their sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy.
San Francisco’s defense has slipped the last two seasons under two different defensive coordinators, and this season, they were 29th in points given up.
It has resulted in many members of the Faithful practically begging for Saleh to reclaim his old job in the Bay.
