There is a growing consensus that Giannis Antetokounmpo might ask to leave the Milwaukee Bucks after this season.
The front office has worked hard to put a strong team around him but it still might not be enough to keep the former MVP happy.
What happens if he does decide his days in Milwaukee are numbered?
“It creates a frenzy around the league behind closed doors.” Adrian Wojnarowski said on ESPN about Antetokounmpo wanting to leave the team.
If Antetokounmpo says his time with the Bucks is over, the entire league will go crazy right away.
Practically every team in the association would want to sign the talented seven-time All-Star.
However, only a few would really have the money and the assets to make it happen.
Teams like the New York Knicks and others are currently sitting, waiting, and closely monitoring the situation in Milwaukee.
Will Antetokounmpo demand a trade at the end of 2023-24 if his team doesn’t do better?
Will he give them more time?
Wojnarowski noted that the Bucks are in a tough spot because they have strived to really provide a strong roster.
Any more additions might require a couple of bad seasons and some luck in the draft.
But it’s unlikely that Antetokounmpo has the patience to stick around through any sort of rebuilding process.
He is just 28 years old but many of his teammates are in their thirties and he may not want to remain as they grow older.
He desperately yearns for another championship as soon as possible.
If he decides that he can’t get it with the Bucks, the “frenzy” will quickly begin.
