The NBA Eastern Conference has never felt so wide open, and there are multiple teams who could make a major run in 2025-26.
Because of a number of big moves and some shocking injuries, the East could change a lot in the new season.
NBA insider Bobby Marks has a lot of faith in one team in particular: the Detroit Pistons.
In a new video, Marks talked about why he thinks the Pistons are just “one move away” from being the best in their conference.
“I do think they’re one move away; they got all their picks now to go out and canvas the market. You do have a window here because, eventually, Jayson Tatum’s going to come back. It’s almost like when [Michael] Jordan retired when we played baseball in the mid-90s,” Marks said, via Pistons Talk.

The Pistons just experienced a massive, stunning turnaround – but can they stay on track?
After having one of the worst seasons in history, the Pistons bounced back in a huge way, becoming the sixth team in the East and reaching the playoffs.
They were pushed out in the first round by the New York Knicks, but there is no doubt that the Pistons were on the right path.
With a young core and some proven vets leading the way, Detroit is making noise, and they want to continue that.
As noted by Marks, the East is reeling from the loss of Jayson Tatum, who will likely sit out all of 2025-26.
On top of that, Tyrese Haliburton has been severely hurt too, which means two of the conference’s biggest stars will be gone.
In other words, now is the time for the Pistons to propel forward and reach a higher level.
They have made some impressive moves, but they need to keep their eyes peeled for other smart adjustments that could help them take advantage of the wild and promising season ahead.
