Memphis Grizzlies fans are all waiting to get good news about their star player, Ja Morant.
Morant injured his ankle the other night during the Play-In game against the Golden State Warriors, and now he is a game-time decision for Friday night’s do-or-die match against the Dallas Mavericks.
Speaking to the press and ESPN, Grizzlies interim head coach Tuomas Iisalo didn’t reveal much about Morant’s status.
“My feel with him is he’ll do absolutely everything in order to play,” Memphis interim coach Tuomas Iisalo told reporters Thursday. “If he’s physically able to do it, he will do it. It’s a legitimate game-time decision.”
Morant injured himself when he stepped on Buddy Hield’s foot in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game.
He went to the bench, nursed his ankle, and was obviously in pain, although he continued to play.
He finished the game with 22 points despite the injury.
The Grizzlies obviously want Morant to be better because taking down the Mavericks without him will be very tricky and difficult.
Since his injury, he has reportedly been undergoing around-the-clock treatment for his ankle and that is clearly helping, but is it helping enough?
For the season, Morant averaged 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game on 45.4 percent from the field.
If he isn’t able to play on Friday, this will just be the latest blow to the Grizzlies.
Morant had injury problems all season and appeared in just 50 games this season.
This would be a disappointing end to a wild and complicated season for the Grizzlies.
Morant wants to play, and he will try as hard as he can to make that happen, but it sounds like a lot is up in the air for the superstar guard.
