It’s safe to say that the Boston Red Sox’s hopes of reaching the postseason are very slim.
And they got even slimmer last night against the rival New York Yankees.
One costly mistake put the Red Sox in a 3-0 hole in the top of the fifth, and it was a hole they never quite climbed out of.
With the game scoreless, Gleyber Torres lined an RBI single out to right field.
The throw went to the plate and was not in time to stop the first runner from scoring, but catcher Connor Wong thought that he had a chance to nab Torres.
Wong threw the ball into right field which allowed Aaron Judge to score and even left enough time for Torres to come all the way around and score, giving New York a 3-0 advantage.

Torres Fools The Sox
This is some incredible hustle by Torres, and some poor defense by the Red Sox.
Torres put on a clinic on the basepaths last night and was able to completely and utterly embarrass the Red Sox with his speed.
Boston’s defense simply could not keep up with Torres’ speed and hustle.
That hit proved to be crucial.
Boston chipped away, but the Yankees ultimately held on for a 5-3 victory, which gave them their fourth straight win and eighth in their last 10 games.
As Jomboy Media said in the tweet above, Torres is hitting so well at the moment that he’s making other teams forget how to play defense.
That’s exactly what you want if you’re the Yankees.
Torres is hitting .290 in his last seven games with two homers and nine RBI.
He led the way as the Yankees capped off a brief two-game sweep of the Sox.
