The New York Giants entered the NFL offseason with questions about their team makeup.
Given the number of rumors floating around the league, fans were inquisitive to see what the team would do at the quarterback position.
Some believed the team would draft a quarterback to replace Daniel Jones, who has not performed as well as the team hoped after giving him an extension.
While they could still draft a QB, the Giants recently made a move to acquire Drew Lock, a signing that has raised a few eyebrows.
Lock hasn’t necessarily proven himself in the NFL yet, but it appears that the Giants are more than willing to give him a few opportunities.
According to Seahawks GM John Schneider, Lock joined this team because he believed he had a legitimate chance to take over as their starter.
“They basically sold him on the opportunity to compete to be the starter. And he felt like it was the right opportunity. He looked at Baker Mayfield’s opportunity last year and felt that this could be something similar,” Seahawks GM John Schneider said.
This is 100% accurate from Schneider, FYI. Had conversations about this exact topic with multiple league sources today #Giants https://t.co/UKeYYoqPjk

The Giants reportedly presented the deal in this way, and for a backup quarterback in 2023, that is all he needed to hear.
Lock spent the entire 2023 season behind Geno Smith, and while that may have been a good experience for him, it was clear that this wasn’t his forever home.
The Giants have made a lot of moves throughout free agency to better their roster, and they could be a vastly improved team in 2024.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a player like Lock to start fresh with a new, building team and try to regain a role as an NFL starter.
It will be interesting to see the quarterback competition between him and Jones.
