The National League West is currently a tightly packed division.
No team is running away with the division by any means.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are at the top.
However, despite being four games below the .500 mark, the San Francisco Giants are only five games out of first place in the division.
The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres are also very close to the Dodgers, with each of them sitting 1.5 and two games back, respectively.
On Friday, Giants writer Susan Slusser stopped by MLB Network to discuss the state of the NL West with Joel Sherman, as well as how things are shaking out for the Giants.

Slusser first discussed the Dodgers and how they are likely the team to beat at the moment.
However, she didn’t discount the Padres, who came out of the gates a little slower than expected but are now winning games and putting pressure on the Dodgers.
San Diego is just two games back of first place, which is currently held by the Dodgers.
Sherman jumped in and asked Slusser what she thought would happen with the Giants as the season progresses and how likely it is that they break through this year.
Slusser discussed how the Giants do have plenty of talent on their roster, but just haven’t gotten going yet.
The team has dealt with injuries this season, with Mike Yastrzemski and Brandon Crawford both being out.
Slusser mentioned how the Diamondbacks are a team that they struggle with and that it will be tough for the Giants to overcome them.
