The New York Giants have had a rough decade or so, but there is a restored sense of hope heading into the 2025 season due to an exciting rookie class and a potentially dominant front seven that could bring back memories of the two Super Bowl champion teams from 2008 and 2012.
As exciting as this season may be, the Giants aren’t going anywhere without the right leadership, and fans should feel safe knowing the team recently chose five strong captains for the upcoming campaign.
New York officially announced its captains on Friday, with Russell Wilson, Darius Slayton, Dexter Lawrence, Bobby Okereke, and Brian Burns receiving the honors.
The Giants have announced the 5 team captains for the 2025 regular season:

Slayton and Lawrence were no-brainers as two of the longest-tenured members of the team on either side of the ball, while Okereke and Burns have established themselves as professional and consistent veterans in their short time in New York.
Wilson being a captain isn’t surprising since he is the starting quarterback, but it will be interesting to see how things unfold early in the season, as this could be his last chance as a starter in the NFL after a pair of uneventful tenures with the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers since leaving the Seattle Seahawks.
With a slow start, the pressure will start mounting, and the fans and media will be calling for a switch to first-round rookie Jaxson Dart, who had a stellar preseason and has checked every box since coming to New York.
There are just days to go until a big 2025 season kicks off for the Giants, and it’s great to see that the team is in good hands with these five captains.
