During the NBA offseason, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped a bombshell about his future with the franchise after the team was embarrassed in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Miami Heat.
The two-time NBA MVP made it clear that if he’s not seeing the same kind of championship mindset around the locker room in Milwaukee, he’ll be headed elsewhere when the time comes.
Obviously, that statement really got a rise out of the Bucks front office, with the team aggressively going after superstar guard Damian Lillard to appease the face of the franchise and potentially set up the team’s long-term future with two future Hall of Famers leading the way.
During Media Day for the Bucks, Antetokounmpo let it be known that he wants to retire with the team, but he’ll be holding off on signing a contract extension, which wouldn’t have been a smart decision since he can make more down the road, via Jamal Collier of ESPN.
Giannis Antetokounmpo reiterates that it doesn't make sense dollars wise to sign a contract extension this summer, but says he is happy
"I want to be a Milwaukee Buck for the rest of the my career, as long as we are winning…. the commitment from the team for me, is there."

Even though the Bucks went all out to acquire Lillard, there’s no guarantee that things will work out in Milwaukee because sometimes superstar pairings don’t work in the NBA, as we’ve seen in the past.
However, it definitely gives the Bucks a championship window moving forward, with Milwaukee at least having a couple of years in which they can try and figure things out to become the cream of the crop in the league once again.
The upcoming season will be interesting, to say the least, for the Bucks, with all eyes on the franchise and the team’s new superstar duo.
