George Karl hasn’t been a head coach in the NBA since 2016, which was a short stint with the Sacramento Kings that ended in disappointment.
Although it’s been quite some time since Karl has called the shots for a team on the sideline in the NBA, that hasn’t kept him out of the headlines over the years, as he’s rubbed some of his former players the wrong way with things he’s said publicly.
Karl is usually making headlines for all the wrong reasons, as he’s not shy about being critical about players of the past and present, but this time he had nothing but praise for the recently retired superstar forward Carmelo Anthony, formerly of the Denver Nuggets.
On an appearance on Run It Back via FanDuel TV, Karl was asked about Anthony and Nikola Jokic both wearing No. 15 and what the Nuggets should do in terms of retiring the number.
Karl praised Anthony for being the best offensive player he had ever coached in the NBA.
“Melo was the best scorer I’ve ever coached… I’ve never had an offensive player like that” 💯@CoachKarl22 thinks #Nuggets should retire both Melo and Jokic’s #15#RunItBack with @ShamsCharania @MichelleDBeadle @ChandlerParsons & @bansky pic.twitter.com/SZh9uem6gU

Although Anthony never won a title in the NBA, nor did he ever reach the NBA Finals, the talented forward still left his mark on the game as one of the best scorers in the league, which led to him being named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.
There’s no question that once Anthony is eligible, he’ll be a first-ballot Hall of Famer for what he did at Syracuse and his contributions to the Nuggets and New York Knicks.
Even though Anthony played for many teams before hanging them up this year, he made a name for himself for what he did in Denver and New York.
