After seemingly being able to turn things around in the second half of the 2023 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders headed into this NFL offseason with some goals in mind after making Antonio Pierce the team’s permanent head coach moving forward.
With Pierce in the fold for the foreseeable future, the next order of business was upgrading the quarterback position, with the consensus being Jimmy Garoppolo would be released and Aidan O’Connell would take a backseat to a veteran player or rookie that he’d compete with in training camp.
Along with the solid signing of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, the Raiders also addressed the quarterback position on Monday by agreeing to terms with veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew on a two-year deal, with the expectation he’ll compete with O’Connell for the starting job, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Over the past few months, there’s been a lot of speculation about what the Raiders would do about the quarterback position in Las Vegas and whether the team would go young with a rookie in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft or take the veteran route.
As of right now, it appears the Raiders are content with going with a veteran, as Minshew is coming off a Pro Bowl year with the Indianapolis Colts and remains a solid option at quarterback moving forward.
However, the Raiders could still make more moves at quarterback with the team linked to Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears, and they might want to bring in a quarterback from the 2024 NFL Draft like Jayden Daniels or J.J. McCarthy.
