The New York Mets are another New York team that is failing to reach expectations.
Just like the Yankees, the Mets will not be playing in the postseason this year.
But they do still have some things to celebrate as a team.
One is that shortstop Francisco Lindor has been named the Mets’ nominee for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award.
According to Anthony DiComo, this is the first nomination of Lindor’s career.
Also, this award is the MLB’s highest off-field/philanthropic honor.

Lindor had been criticized for his lack of production in his first year with the Mets.
But he has since been much better in years two and three.
You can tell Lindor looks much more comfortable playing in New York.
He has even become a fan favorite both on and off the field.
Being nominated for this award is a great honor for Lindor.
For those who may not know why Lindor was nominated, it is due to him giving back to his native country of Puerto Rico.
Lindor and his wife donated $50,000 to Team Rubicon’s efforts to help with disaster relief after Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico.
The star shortstop has given back to so many different causes in need.
He gave back to his alma mater Montverde Academy, where a “Lindor Hall” was named in his honor.
Overall, it is a great honor for any MLB player to be considered for the Roberto Clemente Award.
Each team has its nominee and the winner will be announced during the World Series.
