Two NFL coaches have already been fired this season and with so many teams failing to meet expectations, the sad reality is that more could be on the way.
It’s a tough job that requires everyone to be pulling in the same direction, but one former quarterback believes that one coach had no chance and was set up to fail this season.
In a recent episode of The Facility on FS1, former NFL QB Chase Daniel said he believes the Dallas Cowboys set head coach Mike McCarthy up to fail this season, pointing out “It’s hard to blame anybody else this year other than Jerry Jones…When you go into the season as a lame-duck coach, you’re playing for your life…You’ve won 42 games in four years, and this is how you repay me? And then, you have $20 million in cap space and you told us that you couldn’t afford Derrick Henry, who is the first running back through nine games this year to have a thousand yards.”

Daniel added that injuries play into this and clarified that McCarthy wasn’t set up to fail for the entirety of his tenure in Dallas, but this year with the lack of effort made in free agency and on the trade market combined with his expiring contract, it was a tough situation even before the season began.
Dallas is now looking at a rough stretch coming up since quarterback Dak Prescott is likely out at least for a few games due to the hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
We’ll see if McCarthy can turn things around in Big D, but it’s not looking good at the moment.
