The Green Bay Packers have a stacked roster at almost every position.
Yet, no team is perfect, and they’re not the exception to that rule.
Their struggles at cornerback have been too big to ignore lately, and they need to find an improvement over Nate Hobbs.
With that in mind, former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert urged them to land a big star at the position in the 2026 NFL Draft.
“The Packers need to find the next [Pat Surtain II] in the draft,” Benkert wrote on X.
The Packers need to find the next Surtain in the draft.

That sounds easier said than done.
It’s not that the Packers aren’t capable of finding and developing an elite, All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year cornerback, but Surtain is a one-of-a-kind player.
Yet, Benkert has a valid point.
The Packers need help at the position for the long run.
Unfortunately, their chances of finding a player of Surtain’s caliber in the upcoming draft might be slim.
They don’t have a first-round pick because of the Micah Parsons trade, and though countless star players have been selected in the later rounds, that clearly adds another layer of difficulty to the pursuit.
The Packers have done a solid job of finding and developing players recently, as they are a Super Bowl contender despite having the youngest roster in the NFL.
Adding defensive backs will be a point of emphasis, but whether they’ll find someone as good as Surtain, well, that’s a different story.
