The New York Giants are a team on the rise in the NFL, with the storied franchise finally gaining some steam in the post-Eli Manning era, as they were able to make the playoffs and pull off an upset against the Minnesota Vikings last year.
Head coach Brian Daboll seemed to figure out the recipe for success last season as he singlehandedly changed the culture and got this team turned around.
With the Giants having some success last season, Daboll was dubbed the best new head coach in the league while quarterback Daniel Jones signed a lucrative contract extension.
Although Jones played well last season, there are still a lot of questions about whether he’s the right man for the job under center in New York, as a lot of people were surprised by the extension.
Former NFL star James Jones went on “Speak” on FS1 and talked about Jones and how he doesn’t believe the Giants quarterback should be in the elite conversation at his position.
“Right now, I don’t think Daniel Jones is in that elite category to take his team, as a quarterback, and win 2 playoff games." — @89JonesNTAF pic.twitter.com/43tnNtqSmw

Jones points out that Jones’ production on the field won’t cut it if this team truly wants to be a Super Bowl title contender, as 15 touchdown passes aren’t going to get it done, and he’s probably right.
A team with a lackluster quarterback becomes a Super Bowl title contender only if it has an elite defense, like the Baltimore Ravens did with Ray Lewis and company over 20 years ago.
However, Jones has a chance to prove himself in 2023, as the team will almost certainly be expecting more from him now that he’s signed a big contract.
