Russell Wilson’s first season with the Denver Broncos was not what the organization had in mind.
After trading a significant haul for Wilson, the team’s record in year one was 5-12.
There have been many different theories presented as to why the Broncos didn’t find great success last season.
Some believed it was a personnel issue, while others believed in a distinct lack of talent across the roster.
The prevailing issue for many analysts was the play of Wilson himself.
In a segment of ‘Speak’ on FS1, T.J. Houshmandzadeh voiced his concerns about Wilson.
“I’m not so sure that Russ can ever be what he was in Seattle,” Housmandzadeh said, “You’ve got to give Pete Carroll his credit.”

The Broncos have made several changes throughout the offseason, including the addition of Sean Payton as their new coach.
Nathaniel Hackett wasn’t able to get the job done and was fired before the 2022 season had concluded.
Even though Payton has proven to be a great coach throughout his tenure, Housmandzadeh questions his ability to right the Broncos’ ship.
When he played for the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson was a perennial MVP candidate and considered among the league’s best.
His step back in 2022 was concerning for many, given it was his second-lowest passing total in the past four seasons.
He also only rushed for 277 yards last year, the third-lowest amount in his entire career.
While Wilson has been known as a dual-threat quarterback throughout his time in the league, his age could be catching up to him.
How will the Broncos fare in year two of the Wilson era?
