Quarterback contracts ballooned this past offseason, and they’ll likely continue to rise this upcoming offseason as well.
Four quarterbacks reset the market this summer – the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert and, finally, the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow.
Now, the going rate for an elite NFL quarterback is at least $51 million per year, with Burrow leading the way at $55 million per year, according to Over the Cap.
And as the 2024 offseason looms, there’s one big quarterback name who could top the list: Dak Prescott.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback could earn a huge extension this summer after his career season.
At least, that’s what former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel said he thinks will happen.
“Dak will be the highest-paid player in NFL history come this offseason,” Daniel said on The Athletic Football Show this week. “It’s going to happen. I don’t care what he’s done. He’s played into it. He’s up for a contract extension. He’s going to be the highest-paid player.”

Prescott certainly deserves it after he’s led the Cowboys to a 9-3 record and at least a wildcard spot in the NFC playoff race.
Through 12 games, Prescott’s posted a career-high completion percentage (70.1 percent), leads the NFL with 26 touchdown passes, and has thrown just six interceptions.
The Cowboys are firing on all cylinders as they careen toward the postseason in Mike McCarthy’s fourth season at the helm and first as the offensive play caller.
But a lot can change between now and the summer.
