The Dallas Cowboys have had a rough 2024 season under head coach Mike McCarthy.
Despite beating the Washington Commanders on the road last Sunday, Dallas is 4-7, and starting quarterback Dak Prescott’s season is over due to a hamstring injury.
However, that has not stopped former NFL player and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Schlereth from believing that McCarthy deserves a contract extension.
“If I’m Mike McCarthy I’d like to get on the podium and say, ‘I’m looking forward to being a coaching free agent because there’s no way I’m signing a contract to work here.’ It is just so disrespectful based upon what he has already done in this organization,” Schlereth said Wednesday morning on Breakfast Ball.

McCarthy has proven throughout his tenure that he can still be a good head coach in this league.
After the Covid year in 2020, McCarthy would lead Dallas to three consecutive 12-win seasons and multiple NFC East titles.
Although he hasn’t been able to get them over the hump in the postseason, he has proven that he can still put them in position to do so.
Schlereth also noted how owner Jerry Jones and the Dallas front office haven’t exactly helped give McCarthy the best roster as they decided not to pursue future Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry this past offseason.
If the Cowboys decide not to bring back McCarthy, they will lose a Super Bowl-winning head coach who has won over 180 career games in the NFL (including playoffs).
