It took way longer than most people expected, but the Baltimore Ravens eventually got Lamar Jackson locked in for the future.
The team made some rather questionable decisions about Jackson, at least from a business standpoint, but Jackson stood his ground and got the kind of deal he wanted.
He’s now the highest-paid quarterback in the history of this league and got a record-breaking amount of guaranteed money.
That’s why former Eagles star LeSean McCoy wanted to give him and his mother his flowers for getting this kind of contract despite not having an agent:
“I got to give a big shoutout to Action Jackson’s mother,” McCoy said on FS1. “Mama Jackson, congratulations to you also… I’m so happy for Lamar.”

Notably, this could set a huge precedent for athletes for years to come.
DeAndre Hopkins had already negotiated a very lucrative contract while representing himself, but this record-breaking deal could raise plenty of concerns among sports agencies worldwide.
Player empowerment continues to be an ascending trend, and players might not want to deal with all those high fees that come with having an agent.
Of course, having an agent also has its perks, and it leaves the player enough time to focus solely on what actually matters, which is his health and performance on the field.
But the fact that Jackson could strike this kind of contract all while representing himself and after months of a stand-off with the organization also speaks volumes.
Players are more educated now, and they sure know what they want and how to get it.
So, props to Jackson and his mom for making history, they surely deserve it after all they went through.NEXT: Analyst Explains How Lamar Jackson Cashed In With No Agent
