Aaron Rodgers is now the quarterback for the New York Jets, which will forever feel kind of weird.
But it could’ve been even weirder, as a recent report cites that the New England Patriots were actually interested in him.
The report cites that Rodgers and his camp weren’t interested in playing for the Patriots, adding that he only wanted to play for the Jets.
However, Pat McAfee — and several fans and insiders — weren’t completely sold on this report, as it came out of the left field with nothing else to back it up.

Let's just say I kind of have a sense on what they're thinking in that building"@mlombardiNFL #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/vTUifKp60Z

That’s why he hosted former NFL GM Michael Lombardi on his show to ask whether there was any true to this report, and Lombardi wasn’t so sure.
Lombardi stated that the Patriots might definitely have a lot of respect for Rodgers, but there’s no evidence that makes anyone think that they were actively pursuing another QB at the time of Rodgers’ decision.
He adds that the Patriots weren’t after any other QB when Rodgers became available or after he announced he was joining the Jets, and that’s not usually how QB-needy teams operate.
That makes perfect sense, as they were never in the Jimmy Garoppolo or Derek Carr sweepstakes, didn’t look to trade up in the Draft, and were never seriously in the mix for Lamar Jackson, either.
This would’ve been a cool story, that’s for sure, but it doesn’t seem like any of that actually happened, at least that we know.
