The New York Giants managed to appease Saquon Barkley and his contract situation — for now.
Getting him to take a one-year deal worth $11 million was a massive win for the front office from all perspectives, as they pretty much control his future by being able to place him under the franchise tag again next season if he performs well in 2023.
Needless to say, that would be another disrespectful move after Barkley had a gesture of good faith by showing up and dismissing all the talk about holding out, but this is a cruel business, and franchises do as they please.
With that in mind, former Giants star Victor Cruz shared a piece of advice with Barkley, encouraging him to finish this season in New York and then request a trade to the Chicago Bears, via The Carton Show.

Per Cruz, the Bears make perfect sense because they had a solid young quarterback who they don’t have to pay for the next couple of years in Justin Fields, a nice WR1 in D.J. Moore, a good defense, and a revamped offensive line that could give him plenty of room to do his thing.
Of course, whether the Bears would be interested in Barkley remains to be seen, and the Giants may not be interested in whatever they could have to offer.
Whatever the case, Barkley’s situation with the Giants could turn tense again if they don’t work things out in the next couple of months, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them moving him this very same season if things go south again.
