The Dallas Mavericks have been struggling lately and the team’s morale must be at an all-time low.
With just a few weeks to go before the playoffs, the Mavericks are currently out of play-in contention.
There is a very good chance that they might not even make the postseason.
Because of this, star player Luka Doncic has been honest about his lack of “fun” recently and his frustration with the team.
Kyrie Irving spoke about Doncic’s comments on Sunday following another loss.
Irving gave a lengthy, heartfelt answer, saying that he was “proud of [Donic] for being honest and open.”
“We obviously talked about it in the locker room briefly,” he said.
“The wins and losses come and go, but the kind of nitpicking of judgment of what’s going on when someone says, ‘I’m having human emotions”…that’s the aspect that I don’t enjoy about this sport at all,” Irving added.
After Sunday's loss, Kyrie Irving was asked about Luka Doncic's comments about frustrations in his post-game comments from Friday.
"I'm sure he's had some private time to acknowledge it, but when he acknowledges it in a public eye, I think it's usually suppressed emotions from a… pic.twitter.com/NhDy1btbLX

These words from Irving received quite a response from fans online.
Most of the responses were quite warm and supportive of Irving.
A few people pointed out how he was recently called cancerous for a team’s locker room.

One fan said that Irving has been “a great teammate since he’s been here.”
He added, “Don’t see why he still gets any hate for sticking up for his teammate.”
He’s been a great teammate since he’s been here. Injuries & just bad coaching has hurt. But he’s done everything right in my opinion. Don’t see why he still gets any hate for sticking up for his teammates.

Other people called Irving’s words “refreshing” and said that he seemed very different from the portrait of him painted by the media.
This dude…is refreshing. I feel like I really didn’t know him before he got here bc he is completely different than what my perception was bc of the pictures the media painted. Is there a more present and thoughtful dude in the NBA? Not that I’m aware of.

And even more people commented on the fact that Irving has repeatedly talked about the humanity of NBA players and the way they are treated by the league.
idk how many times kyrie has to say “we’re still humans” before the world decides to listen

Not everyone was supportive, however.
Some fans noted that Irving seems to rarely take responsibility for a team’s failure even though “it’s happened on every team he’s gone to.”
Notice how it’s never his fault destthe fact that it’s happened on every team he’s gone to.

At this point in his career, Irving is going to invoke a strong response from people no matter what he does.
It’s nice to see him supporting his teammates at such a difficult time.
And it’s not a surprise to see a divisive reaction from NBA fans across the web.
