The Colorado Rockies can’t catch a break.
They have been, to this point, the worst team in the National League with a 24-33 record.
Their -61 run differential is also dead last in the NL, and only the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics are worse in that department.
Now, they witnessed one of their best players (on a name basis, at least) get hurt.
The Rockies placed outfielder Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 31, with a left heel bruise.
The injury took place after Bryant fouled a ball off his left heel during Tuesday’s game.
Injuries are, of course, nothing new for Bryant.
In fact, since 2018, he has played something remotely close to a full calendar only twice: in 2019 (147 games) and 2021 (144 games).
Rockies fans, as you would expect, reacted to the news.

Man I loved watching Kris Bryant in 2016, shame what injuries can do to a career. pic.twitter.com/h6dC05zVTG

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rendon should revive the ‘80s band Missing Persons. https://t.co/AK3XXtoIJj

The reality indicates that Bryant shouldn’t require much more than the minimum 10 days on the injured list, but you never know with his extensive injury history.
The 31-year-old appeared in just 42 games last season and has been a disappointment since he signed a seven-year, $182 million contract before the 2022 campaign.
This year, he was slashing .263/.346/.374 with five homers through 50 games.
The power outage actually dates from last season, and it’s a worrisome development with so many years to go on his contract.
Still, the Rockies probably had to know that Bryant’s deal probably wouldn’t age well.
Anyway, the team hopes to have him back in the lineup relatively soon.
