The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are undergoing a major overhaul this offseason.
After losing quarterback Tom Brady to retirement, the Bucs’ championship window has essentially closed.
For the upcoming season, it appears as if the Bucs will be trotting out Baker Mayfield as their starter.
That is not a recipe for success, or at least has not been over the past few seasons.
Mayfield has been given many chances to start in Cleveland, Carolina, and Los Angeles.
But, each of those teams moved on from him.
Now one of the Bucs’ key defensive players is looking to play elsewhere in 2023.
According to Jenna Laine, Bucs linebacker Devin White has requested a trade.
Two sources have told me that Bucs inside linebacker Devin White has requested a trade. Story coming.

It appears that White is “fed up” with the Buccaneers for a multitude of reasons.
One is that White is set for a new contract.
Currently, he will be playing the 2023 season under a one-year deal after the Bucs picked up his fifth-year option.
Also, White can not be thrilled with playing for a Bucs team that will most likely not compete for a Super Bowl.
Many Bucs fans were caught off-guard by this abrupt trade request from White.
Well I wasn’t expecting that on a Tuesday evening

Didn't saw this one coming

Some fans are more than willing to move on from White instead of paying him a massive contract.
Love devin and everything he’s done for us. But if I’ll get us a day 2 or day 3 pick. That is more valuable then paying him 100 million.

Trade him and get a draft pick. If not, he becomes a UFA next year and we either pay him, which we can't afford, or he walks and we get no compensation. He's not top 10 at his position so he's not worth breaking the bank for.

White is going to want a huge contract extension.
Something that the Bucs will probably not want to pay.
Especially because they have struggled with cap space over the past few seasons.
It might be best for the team long-term if they can move White and pick up some draft picks.
