Former first-round pick Anthony Richardson has gone from a promising young quarterback with a potentially bright future with the Indianapolis Colts to a player who will be watching from the sidelines for the rest of the season now that a 39-year-old veteran has taken his spot as the starter.
As if it wasn’t impressive enough that Joe Flacco led the Cleveland Browns to the NFL playoffs last year, it appears he’ll have the opportunity to do it again with another AFC team, as the Colts coaching staff have grown tired of seeing the mistakes from Richardson and want to move forward with the savvy veteran while making the postseason is still a possibility.
Although Richardson hasn’t shown much to get excited about during his second season with the team, this is a stunning turn of events, as it may indicate that the team’s brass is already coming to terms with the fact that they may have made a mistake with the Florida Gators product.
However, Flacco does seem to give the team a better chance of winning games moving forward, and the team is sitting at .500, so it could be a valuable learning experience for Richardson while also being an opportunity to be in the postseason this year.

Here are some fan reactions to Richardson getting benched by the Colts:
Richardson "took himself out" of the starting role

Was Joe Flacco better than Anthony Richardson when he played this year? Yes.
Is the timing of this move after Anthony Richardson basically tapped out of a play also super important here? Yes.
Colts are a borderline playoff team upgrading at QB, it makes sense ??

I didn’t have both him and Young getting benched by year 2 on my bingo card

so now the last 5 years the colts did absolutely nothing. no development, no chance at developing for the future. just constant mediocracy with no offseason moves. fire everybody. WE KNEW WHAT WE WERE GETTING WITH AR. he is a project qb that needs reps. we arent a win now team

Although this news will make a lot of headlines because you don’t see teams giving up on rookie quarterbacks this quickly, it is a move that makes the Colts a better football team moving forward, even though it isn’t a long-term fix.
The real question is whether the Colts will do something drastic in the offseason regarding the quarterback position and if Richardson has lost his chance to prove himself in Indianapolis.
