Together, Gooden and Strawberry dominated the 80s with the Mets.
They won the 1986 World Series and were at the top of the world.
Even though they both had bouts of substance abuse through the years that have affected their friendship, they both made important history with the Mets and are beloved by fans.
Gooden won the Rookie of the Year award in 1984, was a four-time All-Star, and took home the prestigious NL Cy Young award in 1985 in a truly dominant season.
Strawberry retired with 335 home runs and 1,000 RBI, made eight All-Star teams, and also won two Silver Slugger awards.
He was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1983, a year before Gooden.
Both players are forever tied together for their immense on-field contributions to one of the most talented Mets squads of all time.
Mets fans surely hope the two men can embrace in a hug when the time to retire their numbers at Citi Field comes.
