It seems like all of the NBA world is talking about charging and blocking rules following a very tough and brutal Sunday afternoon.
This weekend, two players were injured in charging plays.
Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks both went down in painful ways.
We don’t know how long these two players will be out.
However, we do know that they likely wouldn’t have gotten hurt if the rules around this special type of foul were changed.
Sports Illustrated was just one of the many publications that said the charging and blocking rules should be modified to prevent future injuries.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban agrees.
“Move the circle further away from the basket. Taking it an extra foot away from the hoop would reduce to take charges on drives dramatically. I’ve asked. Obviously nothing has changed,” Cuban said in response to SI’s editorial.

With that tweet, Cuban inserted himself into a conversation that is raging wildly online.
Some people feel that nothing needs to change.
They say that players who get involved in charging and blocking should be well aware of what they’re doing.
“if you’re going to fly in there..beware,” one fan said.
ah I think its fine how it is.. if you’re going to fly in there.. beware

Other people agreed and said that both Antetokounmpo and Morant could have avoided their situations if they had been more careful.
Perhaps they should put a red carpet out Mark. Players should respect defenders far more. Giannis is a walking offensive foul and Morant is reckless. And the nba is full of guys dying to sit out games because of a hangnail (not Giannis).

Then there were plenty of NBA fans who took Cuban’s suggestion as a chance to rag on him for the current state of the Mavericks.
Mark, I’ve asked for you to put together a successful basketball team. Obviously, nothing has changed.

“Look, we know you have extra time since your team didn’t make the playoffs but no need for ‘I knew this would happen’ flex right now,” another said.

It seems like Cuban won’t be the only one calling for big changes within the league.
If there are more injuries like this in the weeks and months ahead, you can bet the cry for substantial review and change will grow.
